The begining of the Journey, the first pull out entering the National Park

The image above is from the Black Canyon of the Gunnison near Montrose, Colorado. This particular shot was from the first pull out on the south rim entrance. This is looking back toward Blue Mesa Reservoir and the Curecanti National Recreation Area. The total length of the canyon is 48 miles. Only the 12 deepest are encompassed in the Black Canyon National Park. Upstream there are three dams on the Gunnison river. Blue Mesa Reservoir utilizes the walls of the canyon to help confine the Gunnison river and make up the reservoir.
