The Denver Zoo is home to about 4000 animals representing 700 species it is located on about 80 acres of land in Denver's City Park.
The zoo was started in 1896 with a single Black Bear cub nicknamed Billy Bryan after a politican. The zoo is currently undergoing a revitalization project. The most recent addition was Predatory Ridge in 2005. The next phase to be completed is Asian Tropics due to be completed in 2009.
The Denver Zoo has alway been an inovative facility starting back in 1918 with the construction of Bear Mountain. This was built with concrete made to look like part of the Mesa Verde National Park. It is still in use today but is currently housing a coati. These continue with the current restoration projects.
