One of the things I have learned over the years is the interesting heritage that I have.

The family has taken part in the history of the United States that is one thing I have learned. For example members of the family were plantation owners, members fought in the revolutionary war serving as a corporal, a doctor and a chaplain (that is three people not one doing all three tasks), they served in the north and the south.

Members of the family served in the American Civil War on both sides fighting in all areas of the war from Commanding General of the Confederate Army (Robert E. Lee is a fifth cousin), to a Lieutenant in the Union Army serving with the Kentucky volunteers, to an able bodied seaman that was serving the Confederate Navy when he succumbed to disease.

During World War I my grandfather served on the last sailing (as in mast, rigging and sails) that served in the United States Navy. That ship was the U.S.S. Bear. It served from the west coast and did its patrols in the far north. My grandfather was the ships physician. An uncle served in the fledgling Air Corps. His grandfather was the Lieutenant in the Kentucky volenteers, he had served with Sherman and was involved in the "March to the Sea".

During that campaign he would march right past what would become one of his relatives by marriage.  More of that in the pages that are linked to this one.

This journey can start in a number of places, but let's start with the Connor page.
