Corfe Castle

The images below are two views of Corfe Castle. Much of the information on this page comes from http://www.isleofpurbeck.com/corfe.html. For more detailed information please visit the site. There are also more pictures and listings of events that one may enjoy learning about.

What I have learned however is this castle is located on the Isle of Purbeck, which is on the southern coast of England. It looks like it is almost in the middle of the coast line east and west. It is a region of the country that has the finest limestone used for building in the UK and is in use throughout parts of the world.

The construction of the castle is from the same limestone. The castle now is in ruins. It is believed built back into the 9th century when it was wood, the current remains were built during the 11th century. During the 12th century King John worked to improve it to his liking and it remained the property of the crown until it was sold by Queen Elizabeth I in 1572.
