In 1643 the castle survived a six weeks siege. However in 1645 a second siege started by Colonel Bingham, Governor of Poole and with the aid of an insider a group known as the Roundheads took over in February 1646 and was systematically destroyed by the Parliamentary forces.
The train shown in the photograph is the Swanage Railway a preserved standard gauge railway that runs part of the year.
