Rocky Mountain National Park has over 250000 acres and sites astride the Continental Divide. It is home to the headwaters of the Colorado River and one of the 14000 ft. peaks of Colorado, Longs Peak. The park is home to a wide variety of plants and animals. The park is also home to the largest tundra ecosystem in the United States National Park System. This part of the park is transversed by the Trail Ridge Road Scenic Byway (U.S. Highway 34). There are some 349 miles (562 km) of hiking trails with trails ranging from easy to very strenuous. The Loch Vale section highlights one of the trails. The park is utilized by snowshoers, horseback riders and fishing enthusiasts as well as the hikers.
