Turkey Vulture searching for dinner
Cattails in fall colors

Standley Lake is located in Westminster, Colorado. It is a large manmade impoundment. The lake is surrounded by park land.

The photographs on this page show views from the lake looking back toward the parkland.

The top photograh shows a pair of turkey vultures soaring. I have seen one of the vultures at Lake Arbor. What was amazing was the fact that it was sitting on the bike path watching the ducks in the lake. After I came around the corner it let me approach to within about six feet. There was no mistaking the identification. Before these two soared away they were close enough to see the unmistakable naked red head.

Most people really make note of the changing of the Aspens in the mountains. However I think there are plenty of scenes like the ones on this page that reflect their own range of colors in the fall. Much like the cottonwood tree that line the irrigation channel in the top photo or the cattails in the picture on the bottom.
